DAY 8
THE FINALE

So today was our last day in Arizona , and we started off with a good breakfast from our hotel and went swimming. We enjoyed the lovely weather today by swimming and sun tanning by the pool before continuing our journey in Arizona . We headed out to go and watch the Arizona State women’s basketball team play UCLA. Unfortunately ASU lost by a lot, but we got some great pictures, souvenirs, and food. We then headed to the “fashion capital of the world”… THE MALL! While we were there we felt like we were in a Hollywood magazine because many of the shoppers, lets just say, looked like they were about to walk the runway. This also includes children! It was very different from good old Mundelein . While we were leaving the mall and heading up the escalator, Megan Woit suddenly stopped. Nobody knew why until they saw her sweatpants were caught in the end of the escalator. We had to push the emergency button which stopped the whole escalator, just to get them out. Grandpa Evans had to pull them out with all his might, and let’s just say her pants lost the strenuous battle. But luckily we all got a good laugh out of it. After the catastrophe we went to eat at Red Lobster for our final meal. We all would agree it was DELICIOUS! Megan found out that their A1 steak sauce was great… you know what I’m saying? We then headed back to the hotel to pack for our early journey home. We are all eager to see our friends and family, but defiantly not eager to see the snow. We have had an amazing time together and have really grown close as a team. We will take so many memories home with us have so many inside jokes to look back on. We are so thankful for the parents, administrators, and coaches that made this possible. All we have to say is…Goodbye Arizona , hello again Mundelein !!!!!!!!

DAY 7
A "GRAND" DAY
We woke up at 7:40 feeling like P. Diddy. It was a beautiful and sunny morning, perfect weather for a 4 hour drive to the Grand Canyon . As the altitude increased, the environment surrounding the vans began to look more like home. The dry desert slowly transformed into a blanket of snow and the cacti were replaced by snow covered evergreens. Although the drive seemed dreary and prolonged, our final destination was nothing short of breath-taking.

At the park we met up with the boys team who seemed to have the same itch of anticipation as we felt the entire drive there. After a much appreciated bathroom break, we started the hike towards the canyon. We didn’t realize how much our eyes were in for a treat. The suspense was building as we approached a gap in the trees and SHABLAM there it was, one of the Seven Wonders of the World ! The entire team gazed in awe at the beauty that truly can only be experienced in person.

Although we came from the harsh winter conditions, some people were not properly equipped for the snow. Not to name names number 42 (Toni Knar) and her brother number 24 (Robert) trekked through the snow in slippers and sandals. Mother Knar came to the rescue with a quick fix of plastic bags to keep the snow off of their cold, little toesies. As we were walking back to the vans coach Harding was in the process of warning the group about the dangers of the slippery walkways. All of a sudden we see Coach Harding on the ground after slipping on the ice…ROCK ON COACH! After a good laugh he got back up and continued on. Once again words could not describe the sight before our eyes.
After a safe drive back home, a nutritious meal at Sonic and a dip in the hot tub, it was another successful day in the lives of the Lady Mustangs.

DAY 6
A DAY OF FUN

Finally, today we were able to sleep in.  Coach Harding picked us up a healthy breakfast that consisted of delicious donuts.  Today was more relaxed because we didn’t have a set schedule.  We decided that we wanted to go to Cracker Jax, a mini golf and game place.  We had a lot of fun getting to know our new roommates as we golfed.  We learned who was good and who wasn’t.  Good thing we aren’t golfers (except Olivia).  After the many group pictures, we headed to the go-cart line.  After convincing the guy to let all 12 cars go at once, the race started.  While most of us went because of the fun of the ride, others were out to get first place.  As she tried to pass everyone, Kate Wallen caused quite a few collisions.  There was no serious damage done.  Before we left, Coach asked Kate what the sign at the front of the race said to make sure she could read.  She responded “No Bumping.”

We all had a taste for Red Robin, yummm.  We are getting used to the scared response when we tell them we have 21 people.  Everything went smoothly except that they forgot Megan Woit’s food. After eating we went back to the hotel to swim in the beautiful Arizona sunshine.  While discussing scary movies and learning how much Coach Harding doesn’t like them, we all decided that we wanted to go see a movie.  We had to choose between The Princess and the Frog and Sherlock Holmes, and Sherlock Holmes won the vote.  After a candy run, we all hopped into the vans and headed to the movie.  Everyone liked it and even Coach Evans stayed awake.  We are now back at the hotel and everyone is ready to get some sleep so that we are well rested for a fun day tomorrow.

DAY 5
FINALE AND KNAR'S

There is no better wakeup call than a sleep chat with Rachael Millner.  We just wish we had a video camera.  But, another day in Arizona brings sunny skies and beautiful weather.  With our stomachs filled with a great breakfast and our Mustang pride, we were off to play our next and final game.  With the help of Brooke and Alina charging into everyone’s rooms and jumping on everyone’s beds, we were definitely pumped up for our early game.  We are happy to report that we topped off our trip with a win which allowed us to win third place in the tournament.  Special shout out goes to Brooke Evans (love ya girl!!) who was chosen for the all tournament team.  Sadly, our win was a battle and with any battle comes setbacks.  Jessi Bjerning ended up getting a bad cut under her chin and had to get stitches.  But, a Mustang never backs down.  She was out of the hospital in a matter of 15 minutes.  When everyone gathered at the hotel, we quickly got spiffed up and were on our way to the Knar’s grandparents’ house.  Not only were their freshly picked grapefruits delicious, but their pulled pork and sloppy joes were mouth watering.  And after being treated to showtunes on the piano courtesy of Molly Rohan and Megan Hanas, we elected a new member of our Mustang clan: Charlie Berry.  Following our arrival at the Knar’s house, we went for an eventful walk and headed over to the annual light show.  With any festivities, we decided to make a mark in Arizona by appearing on the jumbo tron.  It was certainly not over because we ended our night out with a dance party with a bunch of little kids at the park.  We proceeded to the party vans and headed back to the hotel where we switched up the room assignments and developed new relationships with our new roomiesJ  Now we are waiting for the varsity boy’s basketball team for a great New Year’s Eve party and a night of fun.

Hope you all have a happy New Year and (according to Toni Knar) make sure you have your New Year’s Revolution in mind!

DAY 4
MOUNTAINS AND DESERT MOUNTAIN
Day 4 was filled with mountains.  We spent the morning touring in the mountains.  The views are absolutely breathtaking.  Below are some of the photos but they can not do justice to the amazing landscape here.  We found a road that was not blocked that led us up quite high in the mountains (it was open because they were doing some construction) and got some exhilarating views.
After our mountain excursion, we spent a couple of down hours at the hotel before heading off to Sweet Tomatoes for a late lunch.  Everyone took full advantage of the buffet.
Last night, we traveled back to Desert Mountain High School to play the host Wolves.  They came out on fire.  The Lady Mustangs seemed a step behind all night and eventually fell to Desert Mountain 58-39.  The Lady Mustangs will be playing for 3rd Place in the tournament at noon Thursday as they will be taking on Camelback.
After a stop off at In-N-Out Burger on the way back to the hotel, it was time to get ready to turn in.  After another long and exciting day and yet another late night (we did not get back to the hotel until 10:35), it was decided that the girls needed to get ready to get to sleep as we play again in about 13 hours.  As a result, you get my ramblings for the day.  Don't fret.  The girls' writings will return tomorrow!!
Happy New Year everyone!!

DAY 3
MUSTANGS AND SEMIFINALS
The Lady Mustangs are moving on to the Semi-Finals after a 64-39 win tonight.  Their next game will be tomorrow, December 30, at 7:30 PM at Desert Mountain High School.  Here is today's blog and photos.

This morning everyone woke up to a lovely sunset according to Megan Woit. During breakfast she tried to convince everyone that they could all see it even though we were on the wrong side of the hotel. We also had to convince her that the lovely sunset she claimed to have seen was a sunrise not a sunset. After all the criticism we all had a lovely breakfast in each of our hotel rooms. All we weren’t all together apparently we were all watching the movie Ace Call to the Wild in each of our own rooms. At about 10:20 we all gathered in the lobby to head off to the boys game. They had an awesome win!!! On the way back we found a Davis sign and an Evans sign and they each took a picture next to it. After that we went on a mustang excursion. A mustang excursion is similar to eye spy. We basically drove around all over Scottsdale looking for mustangs statues to take pictures around. Were proud to say that we were able to find six different locations with huge mustang statues that we all stood around and took pictures. After that we were STARVING so we decided to have a lovely lunch at T.G.I Friday’s the only problem was that it took FOREVER to get there. Coach Harding was sure that there was one at a strip mall so we circled the mall several times going over hundreds of speed bumps to discover that we were in the wrong location (I guess GPS systems aren’t always correct). Mrs. Evans finally decided to take the lead and we finally found the real T.G.I Fridays. Then we waited another 30 minutes for our drinks and food to arrive. Because lunch took so long we had to hurry and get dressed for our game at 6:00 against Deer Valley . Were proud to say we were victorious with the final score of 64 – 39. The boys were even there as our cheerleaders.  They even had cheers and everything our actual cheerleaders would be proud. With that win we came back to the hotel and ate some Dominos pizza and now were writing this blog and it’s taken us a while because coach Harding’s brother keeps interrupting. It’s now time for us to head back to our rooms and rest up for tomorrow’s excursions and games. Good Night!!!

DAY 2
LET THE GAMES BEGIN

We awakened to the lovely voice of Mrs. Knar calling each room for a wake up call. Breakfast was served from 6am- 9am and there was waffles, hard boiled eggs, sausage, eggs, and pastries YUM YUM! After breakfast we had down time in the rooms until 12:30. In the meantime, we watched World’s Strickest Parents, played card games, and Apples to Apples. At 12:30 we met in the lobby and headed out to the boys game. The Mustang boys had a tremendous victory against Sahaurd , Arizona GREAT JOB BOYS! At the game we were united with some entertaining Knar relatives, including Charlie who kept us all entertained with his dance moves. After the game, we headed out to Panda Express and Subway for lunch. In Panda Express everyone grabbed a fortune cookie, not realizing that they cost 99 cents! OOPS! Back at the hotel we had about 3 hours to spare before GAME TIME. So we all met in one room and played mafia. It included many intense deaths and lovely story telling. After three rounds other games began such as spoons and others just relaxed listening to music or watching Jurassic Park . Around 5:30 everyone headed back to their own rooms and got ready for the game!

We met in the lobby at 6:30 and headed towards Horizon high school to play our first game against the host team. Before the game we met a lady who knew Coach Knar from an old school where they used to coach together. What a small world huh?! Then we were informed that a three point contest was going to be taking place before the game. We chose Brooke as a shooter who hit 6 awesome 3 pointers in one minute. Then we had 10 minutes of warm ups before tip off. Right before the game a Horizon player was awarded a black plaque for accomplishing 1,000 points in her basketball career. So let the game begin!! After the first quarter we had the lead 18-13, but we also had six fouls. In the second quarter they were in bonus almost the entire quarter. We still had the lead at half time but in the locker room, our goal was to stop fouling and putting them on the free throw line for easy points. At the end of game we fulfilled our goal! We only fouled three times and put them on the line twice. It was a great first game and we came out with a 65-52 victory. Tomorrow we are looking forward to seeing another boys game at 10 and playing our own game at 6! WHOA! Almost midnight where you guys are we gotta get to bed! Goodnight everyone!!!

DAY 1, WE HAVE ARRIVED
LADY MUSTANGS IN ARIZONA

Goodbye Mundelein, Hello Arizona ! We started our journey in the wee hours of the morning, arriving at the high school at 4 a.m. At the airport, we realized that we would get nowhere if we continued to take pictures at the rate we were. After finally reaching the Security Check, a problem arose. Both Coach Evans and his father were stopped to be further searched. We didn’t realize we had a criminal on our hands. Mr. Evans was threatening the nation with his breath spray that the security guard was hesitant to take.  After everyone passed through security we made our way to boarding. By the time the plane was ready to take off, the team was ready to catch some shut eye. As the players and coaches were sleeping on the plane, Coach Knar decided it would be funny to snap some close ups of the sleepy heads. Landing in Las Vegas , we were happy to see a bright shining sun and no snow on the ground before we left for the final leg of the trip to Arizona .

ARIZONA- we claimed our luggage and then played UNO and charades while waiting for the vans. During that time we realized that whatever happens at the airport STAYS at the airport. The scenery of our drive to the hotel was filled with mountains, cacti, and palm trees. We decided to go to California Pizza “Chicken” for our first dinner in town. Dinner was a success with many pictures, crayons, kids’ menus, and Mrs. Knar’s singing. Some girls took advantage of the warmer weather and went for a night swim. With all that said and done, we are ready to sleep and prepare for tomorrows game and adventures.
